Story at a glance: (Source: fdk-berlin.de, NFDC, Indopia)

The film tells the tale of a middle-class college youth, Tunnu (Barve), and his unfortunate love life. It is about the dream world that exists in the heart and mind of a Bombay tenement dweller. Tunnu lives in a fantasy-world while His father struggles desperately to make a living and to buy a new apartment. Then, there is Tina, the girl of Tunnu's dreams, a symbol of everything that is unattainable in his life.

Tunnu dwells in a world of action and glamour, romance and sex. Dwarkadas, his father, desperately tries to make money so that he can start an independent business and buy a small apartment. Munni, his sister, resents the constant restrictions and denial of her desires. Jiya, his mother, constantly struggles with her husband's low income and short temper, son's boastfuluness and daughter's hostility.

Tunu first falls for an equally middle-class girl (Renuka Shahane), but abandons her when the sexy Tina (Rajeshwari) reassures his narcissism. His adventures are intercut with those of his conman father (Saxena), a real-estate tout. In the end, the father comes to financial grief, Tunnu's sister elopes with a slumdweller and Tunnu's girlfriend deserts him, leaving him wondering whether she ever existed. Tunnu joins the real-estate business, his optimism undiminished.
